Flight, norsemap asked the question of which is better, energy indepenency by nuclear or being dependant on energy while building renewables, trying to solve, im thinking independency but that would probably risk world economy but being independent is generally a good thing from my view.

No way that renewables will be cheaper by 2020.
Perhaps by 2035 and then well have succeeded in the revolution.

So todays question, would it be better to build renewables while being energy dependant or to build nuclear and once energy independent build renewables.
I have no quick answer to this question, to me, energy independence seems a thing most countries should strive for, but after a certain point of being able to run all services of necessary nature with domestic energy it maybe better to buy the cheapst energy to run your suplementary industry and thus be more efficient in economic sense.
However, that is turned on its head when one thinks of nuclear power which is the cheapst form of energy at the moment and path it opens, the problem is the risk of nuclear accidents which can bring down large nations and empires as chernobyl proved. If we build nuclear power in sufficient number to counter the need for coal well have a fukushima every few years and the background radioactivity of our world will sky rocket as a result. Its gone from 3 units in accepted radiation in the background to around 20 after the nuclear disasters and the supposed "new data" that proves its safe at that levels and if we continue to use nuclear power that ratio will expand by a large margin as we dont have a choice beyond saying its "safe" as we cant evacuate the entire planet though people still know that its dangerous.
The way I see it, its maybe better for the planet to build renewables with everything it can spare and keep building the rest to keep grid stability, we have around 20-30 years before renewables take over for other sources of energy so its maybe better to build new conventional power to take over for old stations and spend the rest on renewables. Though it maybe worth the risk of reducing coal usage to go nuts on the nuclear but past simulations have proven this to be a non viable route. So my cautious vote is for renewables before independence.

LEts try this, bearded guy is independnce before renewables rest to renewable,
Non bearded guy is renewables before indepence but after grid stability.

So energy indepence followed by renewables won.
