Imma write something out:
1930's America First gains large support, they elect a bold populist who tours europe and east asia and puts the foot down. Trades are now for americas benefit, so is its involvement in the world, anything not to its benefit can be considered to be in the past.
US prepares for massive war according to the nationalist ideology of having a large army and sending it nowhere.
As war breaks out the US starts sending small scale aid to the democracies but due to the large german speaking community any large aid would be matched by industrial strikes or similar civilian aid so state involvement in the war is minimal, no lendlease as trades have to be preferrential. If UK wants to sell Canada it can be considered. In real world terms the US trades with most nations of the world, including Japan, but heavily skews those trades in its favor.
1941 comes long and Japan looks south, they know that threathening the anglosphere as a non western ethnicity would likely result in the US involvement in the war so colonies where the majority of the population are natives, not westerners, would be treated by the US in a different light than nations where the population is mostly western, such as Australia or New Zealand.
Japan concludes that large scale movement to the south without access treaty with the US under these conditions would be difficult so it wages option of attacking the US pre-emptively, or stationing local naval and air superiority to any US base in the region while keeping a neutral stance towards the US but taking the native population regions of its sphere in its project.
It concludes to maintain greater power in the region while moving about its goal and not attack the US due to still receiving oil and steel trades, lots of shows of force but no engagement. Japan takes south east asia but does not bomb or engage in australian or new zealand waters, also around any US colonies and bases in the region.
Japans efforts are greatly slower than in our timeline due to having to tiptoe around the US while the US very openly supports anyone against any imperium, be it India against the UK or South east asia against the Japanese. Tho trades with all sides but public opinion is public opinion.
Germany still invades the soviet union and actually engages in a large scale battle of moscow at the end of 1941, still gets pushed out by the reserves.
UK once it realises US is not going to save it starts very rapidly giving freedom to its former colonies in exchange for larger production and manpower amounts from them. India gains independence in 1942-1943, turns into while not exactly a replacement for the US, a large boost for the UK.
1942
Japan has dug in on its conquered territory and is advancing in a land war against China and India, does relatively well but India is mobilizing at an extreme rate.
Axis take stalingrad after an immense draining battle, the soviets hold caucsus with great ease, axis are denied most oil production by an even more fanatic stalin and a even more fanatic population, result in manpower lossess is about the same for axis and about 10% worse for soviets than they did historically.
Italy gains El-Alamein for around 3 weeks after which its pushed out, rest of the battle for africa goes roughly as historic, tho no US landing in africa. Axis slowly get pushed to Tripoli, free french and UK forces liberate algeria with relative ease. A massive battle of tripoli begins as all italian and german expeditary forces to africa are heavily reinforced and "a battle over there" is preferred. While the UK navy is at a vastly weaker position its still able to interdict the supplies to africa to a point where any breakout would be logistically impossible. A battle of stalingrad that lasts for a year begins, UK is victorious at the end (1944)and captures africa.
Some US convoy is sunk by a german U boat captain. Captain is dishonorably discharged and germany makes a lot of news broadcasts about how a stupid boat captain deprived needy german children of their christmas twinkies and now everyone is sad. US is paid reparations, stays uninvoled in war.
1943
Indian manpower in the chinese theater is starting to match nationalist chinese manpower and many small battles are starting to turn in allied favor, Japan absolutely dominates the eastern half of the indian ocean all the way to hawaii but its ability to influence the situation on land due to far less manpower is slowly starting to tell. Japan can still do local attacks that do verywell but the allies, now fighting to the death rather than until the US saves the situation, slowly turn the manpower advantage. Especially due to UK and France agreeing to disband their empires in exchange for the manpower and industrial capacity to win this war which has resulted in massive support completely inconceivable in our current timeline for the Allies in this situation.
US is smiling as its deep pockets get even deeper, it is making an absolute bundle in trades and is even occasionally trading at not cuthroat rates but it is rare, there is some amount of less trade to the axis than the allies especially due to allied promise of independence but outside of a few major countries it has yet to manifest itself so US involvement is still one of a republic watching dictatorships fight for scraps.
Italy is at the verge of being pushed out of africa, free french control most of algeria and all of morocco, battles between free french and vichy french are particularly brutal. The addition of Algerian Nationalists to the Free French side is slowly telling.
Axis attempt a push from their stronghold in Stalingrad to take the caucasus as well as march north along urals. Both operations are absolutely hammered due to logistics and result in a 2nd battle of stalingrad by the winter as the "not one step back" germans are getting encircled. Situation some hundreds of kilometers east of historic but otherwise roughly same. Axis deathtoll same as our world while Soviet deathtoll 5-20% greater than ourtimeline year to year. Leningrad Moscow and Baku firmly entrenched in Soviet hands.
Yugoslav partisans do better than historic as long attritional war in africa is resulting in even less italian and german puppet ability to monitor the partisans. Combined with a even more stretched out logistics in the east.
UN Formed in UK controlled Wellington, dedicated to rapid decolonization and return to national ethnic borders for everyone. First resolutions are decolonization of africa and india as well as beating back the desire to form new empires by first demanding then taking action if not agreed to of independence for nations like Philippines which is a US colony, Indochina which is a French colony and Manchuria which is a Japanese colony. Declarations are nearly uniformly hated by everyone and adopted by all the now independent nations as well as their colonial overlords. Free France is one of the first to sign and Vichy France will sign after German occupation of Vichy territories in 1944. All major nations sign by or shortly after end of war.
Us trade surplus described as "astronomic".
1944
Germans pushed to the dnipr and lose all territory to the east, the Siege of leningrad is broken but the battle of narva does not end by end of year. Sevastopol continues to hold but by year end is being evacuated.
Italy is pushed out of africa. UN nations under UK and Free French leadership land in Corsica, Sardinia, Sisily and Crete. Resistance at some locations but generally lighter than expected. Heavy fortifications at Sisily-Mainland beacheads.
Japanese forces lose for the last time a land connection between indochina and north east china. Indians push Japanese out of Burma and towards Singapore.
General unrest to a greater degree in any territory not controlled by its national or ethnic government, such as protests and partisans against the germans and the japanese as well as strikes and protest in philippines against the US.
Greater success by the nationalist chinese than the communist chinese due to soviet heavy dedication to defeating germany. Japan continues to hold to non aggression with both USSR and US.
Germany occupies whole of France and disbands the Vichy government, which promptly signs the UN charter as France the same as Free French. Some battles in occupied Vichy between French and Germans.
1945
Free French, Vichy French, UK and most of the now battlehardened individual UN nations commit to landing on the south coast of france and italy in an effort to knock one or both parties out of the war, preferrably while granting their militaries to Allied control. The landings are lightly opposed as the Germans and Italians are very surprised by just how good the royal navy is in an actual naval fight, something they had mostly heard from the Japanese which they looked down on. Until now the only major operation the Italian and German navies had participated in was the battle of africa, which the allied nations did not need a strong naval presence for compared to an opposed beach landing. Almost as soon as Rome falls after a surpisingly short land combat the Italian government signs the charter and joins the allies. The germans threathening to be cut off by the length of italy withdraw north of the Po river valley. By the years end the allies control all of italy south of the Po river.
The landing in marseilles turns into a quick run towards the french capital as most of the french join the movement and welcome the allies. This includes the hundreds of thousands of partisans across the country. The germans are unable to set up a solid front and keep having to pull back. The front stabilizes at a line from cherbourg to paris to alsac lorraine, with the southren half under Allied control. French territory is relatively intact due to the quick turn of the population. Italy is not as it was bombed heavily especially in the infrastructure during the battle of italy and battle of africa.
Axis forces in Russia pushed to Moldova, Eastern Poland and South Baltics, Finland exists the war as germans leave the baltic with Finlands stated wargoal of "They were exterminating people, if they got those we proteted for a few years they'd exterminated them too, now they are beaten back so heres your people well tended to, and we'll now attack them in norway". As per historic(tm).
US signs the UN charter and states its a non belligerent, does not change trade stance but starts leaning on others to sign the charter and carry it out.
Japanese foreign trade balance is starting to seriously effect their economy, while they can import what they need the cost is so high that they can not continue to make an empire with it. There is debate in government about ending the war but it is overruled.
Indian forces liberate all of indochina and chinese forces are making strong efforts against the coastal cities still under japanese rule, manchuria is still a japanese puppet.
US is rolling in the money filthy rich style.
1946
Axis pushed to prussia, Battle of koningsberg which turns to a stalingrad, eventual costly soviet victory, uprising in warsaw, open support from allied nations, open stepping back and watching from the soviets, during it the soviets push into Romania and Prussia but not into Poland. Uprising defeated after some months longer than our timeline due to lots of long distance air support at high cost to allies for reasons of ideology. As uprising defeated soviets push into warsaw and push exhausted germans out easily. Proclaim Socialist Poland which promptly joins the USSR.
Japan is pushed out of Beijing and the battle of manchuria begins. Soviets wait for an opportune time to strike and take as much of manchuria and Korea as they can, Japanese holdouts in south korea as slowly withdrawing Japanese bottle up in the roads leading to south korea as well as south koreas southren port cities. Japan has near uncontested superiority over the naval warfare but simply does not have the manpower to stand up to all the now very much fighting for their independence allied nations, the manpower maybe even more lopsided in allied favor than in ourtimeline while the gear certainly is not.
US has a larger navy than all other combatants combined due to a massive military buildup. Richer than its ever been before.
After the soviet non involvement in the defence of warsaw earlier the allies start one by one rolling back their assistance to the USSR.
As soon as mainland china is secure from the Japanese the Chinese recommense their civil war, the indians are content to sit with all of indochina, Japanese navy continues to use islands which are not land connected for the indians and the allies as resource outposts, has sufficient industrial materials to run its industry without china but is badly hurt by loss.
Slow allied push up towards austria and western germany, staunch german resistance, allied occupations of Yugoslavia and Greece as Axis start to withdraw from the balkans towards years end.
1947
Battle of Seelow heights, German tactical victory, the soviets attempt to strike into berlin from poland while not yet in control of the Balkans and end up being pushed back. Soviets start preparing logistics through a quite hostile poland and eastern europe for a massive push to berlin and use the rest of their army to secure the balkans. By years end every balkan nation except Yugoslavia and Greece are in the USSR.
Japanese evacuation from mainland. Retain Sakhalin and Kurilin due to naval superiority. Continues to hold east indies islands outside of Philippines. Has the largest regional navy by far but the US navy they arent even in their wildest pearl harbor dreams capable of fighting.
Massive celebration amidst occasional skirmish in entirety of mainland india and china. For them war is either over or near so, now its all about europe.
German territories contain 150+ divisions of combat ready forces. While soviets have around 350 divisions and allied around 200 divisions. Germans are making a fortress out of it but are being dedicatedly pushed back. Vienna and Essen fall to the allies, no german collapse.
1948.
Germans sign an armistace, agree to the UN charter and apprehend most of the axis leadership, the military throws a coup after Frankfurt and Hamburg fall. Unified germany post war but a smaller germany. Most of african nations took over 50.000 casualties and india took over a million. Post world war world is similar to post colonial world. You can consider the post colonisation of africa to happen 20 years earlier and MUCH better than historic.
Soviets mainly ignore the UN charter and annex Baltics, Poland, Moldova, into themselves and keep a very tight leash on the balkans, and then settle in for the long haul.
Japan now being the only nation at war with the allies first tries to blackmail the world with the idea of how long it would take to defeat their well honed navy, after few months of dedicated fighting by the nations of the world outside of the US and the USSR the Japanese start to lose their illusion that it will be an easy fight, the imperial palace organizes a coup against the government while japan still controls most of the dutch east indies, signs a peace that guarantees japanese mineral and industrial rights in independence for political and diplomatic and military concessions such as disarmament and recognition of local governments rights as well as war reparations to korea and others. Treaty guarantees Japans industrial position in its sphere so its developement is roughly similar as our timeline even without heavy US help. Rapidly partially demilitarizes but maintains a strong domestic garrison unlike our timeline. 10+ carriers still remaining in prime service at end of war.
US launches its and the planets first satellite, the Scout, a small radio transmitter into low earth orbit.
War ends in 1948 as Japan signs an armistice.
Hitler holds a firey last stance court speech at the UN headquarters in Wellington X(before being hanged. Final vote by judges between hanging and imprisonment was split 5-4.)X
Final Verdict is to follow Napoleons example and be banished to saint helena with his family and closest advisors and a US fleet be stationed to make sure he does not escape or in anyway influence the world again.
